If you were to die today, would you go to heaven? The Bible tells us that we can know.
"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have
eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."
I John 5:13
Your first question, if you haven't left yet, is probably "How?". If you continue to read, I will tell you how you can know, taken directly from the Bible.
"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God;"
This passage tells us that everyone is a sinner. There is nobody who is perfect, we all have made mistakes.
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Because of our sins we deserve death, but God has given us eternal life through his son Jesus Christ.
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
God knew that we were sinners, yet Christ died for us anyway. This shows us God's great love for us.
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Jesus Christ is the only way.
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
All you need to do is ask, and he will save you. The gift was purchased 2000 years ago, and all you need to do is accept it. If you have never done this, then maybe now is a good time. Here is a prayer similar to the one I prayed when I got saved. You can use it as an example if you want.
"Dear Lord, I know that I am a sinner, and I know that because of my sin I deserve death in hell. But I also know you sent your son to die for me, to forgive me from my sins, and take me to heaven when I die. I now accept this gift you have given me. Please come into my heart and forgive me from my sins. Thank you for saving me."
If you just prayed this prayer from your heart, then when this life is over, you will go to heaven.
"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Once you are saved, there is no one who can change that. You can have confidence in your salvation.
"Not forsaking the assemling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so
much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Now that you are saved, it is important to be around other Christian people. Go to a local church, and become involved there. If you don't have a Bible, buy one, and read it every day. I'd recommend starting in John, but it's all good. Pray continually.
